The HTML element is used for creating superscript text. Since it is inherently presentational, it should not be used to express a given meaning. However, it can be useful for mathematical exponents (x2) where the context implies the meaning of the exponent, as well as other cases where superscript presentation is helpful but not required. This element must not be used for styling purposes like the styling of the product name LaTeX. In that case CSS styles should be used; the vertical-align property with the sup value will achieve the same effect.
